Ear syringing

From 1st April 2020 we will only be offering a very limited ear syringing service.

We have made this change in response to current clinical guidance which no longer recommends ear syringing for the removal of ear wax due to the potential risk of complications. Ear wax blockage can be safely managed with the use of olive oil, and an an ‘Ear Care Information’ leaflet is available to view here.

We accept that there may still be occasions where it is clinically indicated that a patient would benefit from ear syringing.  These patients will need to have first been assessed by a nurse or GP as being appropriate for this procedure, and will then be added to a waiting list and contacted once an appointment becomes available.  Please therefore note that you will no longer be able to book appointments for ear syringing through our reception team.

By changing the way in which we manage ear wax blockage, we are able to provide approximately 2 additional weeks of nursing time per year, increasing our capacity to carry out essential nursing procedures such as baby immunisations, dressings, and cervical screening.

Thank you for your understanding.
